News

April 14, 2003

-- Its been a while since I updated the news. My best friend, Daniel Bishop from Swindon, England visited in March and I was so busy with having a houseguest for a while that I didn't post anything new. I have lots of great pics to add from his trip and will post them as soon as I can, so check for those soon. Daniel is Zoë's godfather, and loves to visit his goddaughter as much as possible. She just adores him. She hadn't seen him since she was 2 months old, but she recognized him in March when she was 8 months old. She even headbutted him which was a game they'd play when he was here before. What's odd is that she is very shy and never goes to strangers, but she went right to him, so we know she remembered him. They had a great time together during his entire trip.
Spring has sprung here in Tennessee, and the kids just got back to school from being off for Spring Break. Unfortunately it was cold and wet for almost the whole time. Saturday however was nice, so we went to Pigeon Forge and had lunch at a pancake house then went to the Smokies. The girls thought it was neat that Newfound Gap was still cold and had about 3 inches or more of snow around. It was quite beautiful to see the snow covered mountains on the way up, and then to actually get out in the snow. On our way back down the mountain, we stopped at the Sugar Mountain Trail which is a great trail for kids and is paved for a stroller. The kids had fun learning about the history of the Park and the plants and animals that live there as well as the "greybacks" or boulders that are strewn all over. Unfortunately, our trip didn't end as well as it had started. We got stuck in a bad traffic jam on our way back to Pigeon Forge from driving through Gatlinburg. It took us a whole hour to drive the 5 miles from Gatlinburg to Pigeon Forge then another hour to get on a road out of Pigeon Forge. We've decided from now on, we'll take the back roads to and from Gatlinburg.
Here at the house, we've been working outside a bit getting some flowers planted and trying to keep up with the grass. We have a manual powered push mower and I think we'll need to start mowing twice a week. The last week's rain really made things grow. The girls have been getting much better at putting their toys away now that they have a toy bench outside to keep their things in. Faelyn is still riding a tricycle, but we may trade each of the girls up a bike size soon or at least get Faelyn and Corina new bikes. Corina's birthday is in a few days, on the 22nd. We don't plan a big party, but I think she'll like what we got her and will have fun with everyone here to have dinner and cake with her. CoraLynn (her grnadma) is supposed to be coming over for dinner, and we'll be seeing my family on Easter Sunday too.
Easter will be fun here as always, I just hope it doesn't rain so that the girls can get out and hunt eggs. Zoë should be big enough to carry a little basket and hunt some eggs of her own this year. I can't wait to take pictures and post them on here. That's all for this update. Please check back to see what else has been going on around here.

-- This week we finally got the paint to paint the long kitchen wall that I've wanted done forever. It was such an eyesore before, and now its turned out to be a beautiful backdrop for the gallery of family photos I put up. Check out the new *after* photos here. I painted all the way into the hallway to the door to the girl's room. I still have to do the other side of that laundry area, but it will have to wait. All the remodeling and improvemtns eat up my time and I tend to neglect my housework. So this weekend, I'll just spend washing dishes and doing laundry, sweeping, mopping and vacuuming.
This morning we all had a shock. It has been flooding a bit so I asked Christopher to check on Blueberry, our Angora rabbit. He said the cage door was open! Apparently Faelyn had opened it even after I told her not to when she went to give him a peach. So we all figured we'd never see him again, but when I went out to the van to get something a few minutes later, I saw him hopping around soaking wet in someone else' yard. Chris and I went to catch him, but he was so tired, it wasn't hard. I took him inside and dried him off. He is safe back in his locked cage with yummy food and a fresh water bottle. He looked happy to be back.

-- This past week was quite eventful. After all the remodeling we had done, I had a lot of housework to catch up on, so I spent a whole day doing dishes and laundry and mopping etc. Then on Wednesday, we had a big dinner with CoraLynn, Zelda (Eric's Mom), Zelda's boyfriend Jeff and Alex and Leah (Colleen and Eric's children). We all had a great time and the kids all enjoyed playing with each other.
Then yesterday was Valentines Day. Christopher and I exchanged our gifts and we gave he girls their Valentines gifts. Then we gave Faelyn her birthday presents from us and her sisters. Then we went to Blockbuster and let her pick out a DVD to watch later, then had lunch at Ryan's where they sang Happy Birthday to her! :) Then we went to the store and she picked out her cake. A Tonka Truck one hehe. When we got home, they all climbed into the recliner and watched the DVD. That's when Christopher had to go to work. Then the girls and I had dinner and cake. It was a really nice day for the whole family. Today I hope to get more put up on the website. Please check back soon.

-- Well we didn't get to work on the office/den afterall since it snowed an inch the night before. We have to clear a spot in a dry part of the shed first, so we decided to wait til a dryer warmer day. Instead of wasting a day of Christopher being home all day to help - I decided to start on the girls' room instead. We moved the furniture away from one wall, pulled about a hundred staples out of the wall, and then primed it. Then while waiting for it to dry, we primed the shelves I had cut at Lowes previously. Then I painted the wall blue (Corina and Faelyn picked it). Then while it dried, we painted the shelves a pretty yellow. While they all dried, I went to Lowes and got wood for the top of the old coffee table and to build a shelf along the back of the sleeper sofa. Christopher and the girls all went to the game store for the evening and left me to work on it. I got the table top attached then my arm gave out after all the painting and drilling for the shelves. So I stopped for the night. I started bright and early this morning and got them all put up and the clear storage bins were put into place and the walls redecorated. -- Finally getting more done on the website. The kitchen page is done (well as far as what we've done in it anyway) Check it out here! As we do more work on the room, I'll take pics and post them. Tomorrow, we start working on the office. Its the room that used to be Corina's room then it was our room then it was Faelyn's room, then it was Corina's room again LOL!!! Ok, well now we have figured out how to get all the girls into one bedroom comfortably. We'll keep our sleeper sofa in the living room, but the office will be our getaway. With a couch and a desk for Christopher's computer -- and also Zoë's crib. The girls can watch a DVD in the living room and we can actually have a room to go to get away from it. I'll take lots of pics of it before, during and after.
